Dourdan is a town of 9700 inhabitants, located in the
Department of Essonne (Capital Evry), Region Ile de France, at the edge of the Beauce and Hurepoix areas at
about 35 miles South of Paris. Surrounded by huge forests, along the river
Orge, it was, in former time, a "royal town" owned by the Kingdom of
France. Its medieval fortress, passed history and the proximity of Paris bring to it quite a number of visitors. Appart from Great Dunmow, Dourdan is twinned with Bad Wiesee (Germany) since 1963, Troungounbé (Mali) since 1988 and Lac Mégantic (Québec) since 1989. |

Great Dunmow is a town of 9000 inhabitants, located at about 35 miles North-East of London, in the District of Uttlesford (Capital Saffron Walden), County of Essex (Capital Chelmsford), Region of East Anglia. Along the river Chelmer, near the Stanstead international airport, it is built on the site of an old roman road. Unlike Dourdan it has not got any mediaval castle, but is, nonetheless, well known for its Flitch Trials which takes place every four years since about 1220. |
